STUDIES ON SIX-EIGHT (6/8) METER

The Six-eight meter consists of two units containing three Eighth-Notes each with the accents on the 3rd and the 6th beats respectively and counted as follows.

ETUDE

MM = 60 (Here, an Eighth-note is to be played at the tempo of 60 beats per minute.)

ETUDE

MM = 70 (The Eighth-note is to be played at the tempo of 70 beats per minute.)

DOTTED RESTS:-Dotted rests have the time duration similar to those of dotted-notes, which appear in the notation as shown below:

REST FOR MULTIPLE BARS / MEASURES:-Rests for more than one whole bar may be indicated as shown below.


OCTAVA

In written music, when a series of notes containing too many lower or upper ledger lines, an indication known as 8va (OCTAVA ) is placed above or below the staff to save time and space as well as to make the reading or writing of notes easier. For example:

The 8va placed above the staff indicates to play the notes ONE octave higher as shown below.

The 8va placed below the staff indicates to play the notes ONE octave lower as shown below.
