Notes on the Ist String E

First, strike the 1st open string to find E note. Then, press finger 1 of the left hand on the Ist fret of the same string to find F note. Now, press finger 3 on the 3rd fret to find G note.

NOTE: Play each note slowly and carefully using a plectrum Downstroke / Upstroke as well as finger-picking using only i and m fingers alternately as indicated above each note.

[The sound of each note must be ROUND and the counting be of equal time duration.]

WHOLE-NOTE = 4 BEATS

HALF-NOTE = 2 BEATS

QUARTER-NOTE = 1 BEAT

The following 2 Etudes (Studies) are based on the Ist string only. Play only THREE notes on the Ist string, i.e. E, F and G as you have learnt in this page.

[NOTE: Play each individual note as slowly as possible in the beginning to memorize the placement of each note. Be conscious of the quality of each note and make sure each note produces 'ROUND' tone.Increase the speed only when you are confident of the pitch and the time value of each written note.]

Ist String Etude

Finger-pick ( i ) and ( m ) alternately and flat-pick Down-stroke & Up-stroke as indicated.

[NOTE: The numbers shown in the beginning of each row of the staff indicate the measure number,i.e. the first row has 4 measures and the second row begins from measure 5.]
