GUITAR IS A GLOBAL MUSICAL INSTRUMENT

Guitar is one of the easiest instruments for a beginner to learn - but one of the most difficult to master. In other words, only a few simple chords will suffice for popular songs, but for those who want to pursue the limitless musical expression of guitar literature, there is an unlimited resource on this instrument - and certainly, a careful and systematic learning and understanding of the instrument is essential to achieve this goal.

TIPS FOR BEGINNERS TO DEVELOP SIGHT READING ABILITY

Once you have understood the rudiments, the place of notes on each fret of different strings, time value of different type of notes etc, follow these simple guidelines.

– Practice for half an hour in the beginning for about a week or two. When you think “Yes, I am comfortable and enjoying,” then add your time span to one hour, and then two hours and so on.

– In the beginning, you may have problem of counting and playing the notes simultaneously. If so, practice counting rhythmic structures and reading the notes separately without touching the instrument at least 5 to 10 times.

– Once you are comfortable with this, try counting and reading the notes simultaneously. Then hold your guitar and start playing slowly.

– Play each note as slowly as possible in the beginning. Increase the speed gradually when you are comfortable with the counting and reading simultaneously.

– Always read the written notes first-hand i.e. the Clef, Time-signature, Pitch and Time value of each written note.

– In a matter of few weeks, you will see a lot of difference in your sight reading ability.

Expand the horizon of your learning and musical knowledge

to the best possible extent!

Make sure each note you strike sounds musical and pleasing to the ears – it is possible only if you practice for a considerable amount of time everyday.

Always REMEMBR “Practicing daily even for one hour is more effective than practicing seven hours a week at one go”.

Enjoy the learning! Good Luck!!
